Earthy Modern
AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2008

This Murray Hill powder room is "a study in contrast between earthy, warm materials and modern elements," saysdesigner Jana Manning of Manning Design Group. "The whole idea was to be modern but with a soul," adds Manning, an allied member of ASID. The designer also wanted to create a smooth transition between the powder room and the nearby living room, which has a "modern, zen feeling." The focus is on modern living with Mannings choice of a floor-to-ceiling accent wall covered in sleek two-by-two inch porcelain tiles, a brushed steel halogen sconce above a green frosted glass vessel sink, and wall-mounted brushed steel faucets. The designer introduced earthy notes in the color of the wall tiles (shades of silvery and deep olive green with touches of bronze), the 24-by-24 inch reclaimed flagstone floor tiles in vessels atop the toilet. For a touch of drama there is a burnt orange concrete countertop supported by black metal legs.
